Overview - Student Internship Position - Improving FlowIntel
FlowIntel is an open-source collaborative case-management platform that helps security analysts organise investigations, tasks, and intelligence. It provides a shared workspace for structuring information, following the progress of a case, and coordinating the work of an analysis team.
This is a generic internship topic covering potential improvements across FlowIntel. The precise project will be selected with the student according to the project’s current needs and the student’s interests and experience. The work may focus on one substantial improvement or combine several related contributions.
Possible tasks include:
- Reviewing existing analyst workflows and improving the user experience and accessibility.
- Extending case, task, evidence, tagging, search, filtering, and visualisation features.
- Improving collaboration features, notifications, activity tracking, and auditability.
- Developing or improving APIs, data import and export, and integrations with other security tools.
- Improving authentication, authorisation, input validation, and other security controls.
- Investigating performance and scalability issues and improving background processing or data handling.
- Simplifying installation, configuration, upgrades, backups, and containerised deployments.
- Extending automated tests, continuous integration, developer documentation, and user documentation.
- Triaging issues, fixing bugs, and implementing other useful features identified with the FlowIntel community.
The internship will begin with a review of the existing code base, documentation, and open issues. The student will then define the scope with the maintainers, design and implement the selected improvements, and evaluate them with realistic workflows. The work should result in tested, documented, and reusable free software contributions to FlowIntel.
