The workshops and speakers are now announced for a unique conference in Europe where world-class security professionals meet and openly talk about security vulnerabilities and their own discoveries

Luxembourg September 15th, 2014 - For the 10th time in a row, one of the oldest and largest conferences in Europe on Information Security will be held in Luxembourg on October 21-24 at Parc Hotel Alvisse. With more than 250 attendees from around 40 different countries, hack.lu has strongly positioned itself on the international security scene, while somehow keeping an intimate and community driven atmosphere.

Workshops and speakers now announced

The 4 days conference is organized around a number of workshop sessions and keynote speeches workshop sessions and keynote, presented by renowned security professionals. These workshops range from “NFC/RFID Security & Privacy”, “DFIR and Open Source”, “BetterCrypto for Sys Admins”, “how I hacked my city”, “Embrace the Viper and live happy”, “WiHawk - Router Vulnerability Scanner”, “Breaking Out of VirtualBox through 3D Acceleration”, just to mention a few of the topics that will be covered.

“One of our confirmed keynote speakers is Marion Marschalek, who will give a keynote speech. She works as reverse engineer and threat researcher and has written articles for C’t magazine and Virus Bulletin. She is a frequent speaker at international conferences such as Defcon Las Vegas, RSA San Francisco and POC Seoul. Last year, she won the Halvar Flake’s Female Reverse Engineering Challenge. We are really proud to have her on board”, explains Alexandre Dulaunoy, the co-organizer of hack.lu.

The objective of such a conference is to enable security professionals to openly discuss about computer security, privacy, information technology and the various cultural and technical implications they may have.

Highlight: the Capture The Flag contest

One of the main highlights of the conference is the Capture the Flag (CTF) contest that enrolled last year around 400 teams, each made of 1 to 20 people. CTF is a computer Security competition (http://2014.hack.lu/index.php/CaptureTheFlag) aiming to give participants experience in securing a machine, as well as conducting and reacting to real world type of attacks. This contest is designed like an educational exercise by the FluxFingers architects from the Ruhr-University Bochum. The teams that are engaged score on their success in defending the machine/network given to them and attacking the others. The topics that will be covered this year are around cryptography, web security, reverse engineering and forensics.

The Code Club Luxembourg will also organize on the Thursday evening a unique CoderDojo session in order to sensitize students and adults to software development, data manipulation and visualization, and hardware.
